Kids at Treworgey

Where childhood dreams come true

Treworgey really is a haven for children, with a huge array of activities and facilities combined with 150 acres of countryside to roam. Many of our guests say their children only come back indoors to the cottage for mealtimes!

Riding

We have a fully licensed riding school exclusively for our guests, lead by our inspiring and very popular Instructors, Indie and Hester. Kids of all ages and abilities have the time of their lives during riding lessons, hacks and pony clubs here at Treworgey and many spend happy hours helping out in the yard between times. For more info and to book riding, see our riding page.

Animal feeding

Every week day morning kids of all ages are invited to join in with the animal feeding. The kids absolutely love meeting, feeding and stroking the goats, pig, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits and sometimes lambs and foals.

Playground

Our playground had a huge re-vamp in 2015. Play equipment includes a fantastic basket swing, slides, climbing frame, monkey bars, sloped climbing wall, stepping logs, Wendy house, sand play including mechanical systems for moving sand and pumping and channelling water.

Indoor Beach

A fantastic indoor playground with climbing frame, mechanical sand play, slide, traversing climbing walls and area for badminton.  Our small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens) live at one end of the indoor beach too.

Playroom

Our playroom with fantastic murals painted by Bevis' sister Jenny houses table tennis table, pool table, Brio train set table, Wendy house with all sorts of things to play with inside, and a range of books and toys including ride-on trikes for younger children.

Craft boxes

We have put together several special craft boxes full of materials for budding young artists that you can take from the playroom back to your cottage. Just pop them back in the playroom when you've finished.

Heated outdoor pool (with a view!)

Our warm, clear outdoor pool, surrounded by a garden with sun loungers and overlooking the beautiful river valley, is a great place to let the kids use up their energy while you relax.

Exploring

Children can explore all 150 acres of fields and woodland at Treworgey. They can dam the steam in the wood near the cottages, or roam right down to the headland where the two Looe rivers meet at the bottom of our land. They can follow our nature trail and spot animal tracks and burrows in the woods and hedgerows or climb trees.

Give them a taste of that wild freedom that they can usually only read about in stories, and that only a place like Treworgey can really provide.

Children's clubs

We have three weekly kids clubs during school holidays, two of which involve fantastic fun in the riding school. For more details, please see our children's clubs page

Family-friendly days out

As well as beaches less than 10 minutes away, wonderful family-friendly National Trust properties and beautiful woodlands and moorland to explore, there are loads of lovely places and attractions to visit that are family-friendly near Treworgey. Here are just a handful:

  • Flambards Flambards is a great day out for the whole family, with rides for all ages, indoor play and their award-winning and unique exhibitions including the Victorian Village, Britain in the Blitz and Hands on Science. An educational and fun day out.
  • Siblyback Lake - Just up the road and perfect for outdoor adventures, with wakeboarding, kayaking, windsurfing and more. Mums and dads not wishing to join in can enjoy a peaceful stroll around the lake.
  • The Eden Project - The world famous Eden Project is more than just a garden. Children of all ages will enjoy the outside gardens with fun activities along the way, as well as the Biomes. During school holidays Eden always puts something a little special on. Past School holiday fun has included mixing potions at Halloween, building dens and learning survival tips.
  • Glendurgan Maze - Not only does Glendurgan have beautiful gardens and its very own beach, the cherry laurel hedges of the maze have seen over 175 years of family fun and children of all ages will have hours of fun.
  • Adrenalin Quarry - Big rides for all ages including a wipeout aqua park. Activities also include karting at Karting world, axe throwing, giant swing and zip wire.
  • Porfell - Since 1989, Porfell have created homes designed to suit each species individual needs. The result is a living attraction quite unlike a zoo. You can really get up close and personal with a wide selection of animals. Porfell is great for all ages and pushchair friendly.
  • Lanhydrock - Its beautiful gardens are fantastic for children to run around in and the ideal spot for a picnic. The house is also fantastic, step back in time and see house as the Agar-Robartes family and their staff would have known it. The house is not pushchair friendly and some of the servants quarters are not easy to climb with little ones as narrow so better for slightly older kids. This said, you don't miss too much leaving these bits out and children will love seeing how a family would of lived in the Victorian era. Trails and quizzes are available too.
  • Morwellham Quay - Another step back in time to both the Victorian and Edwardian ages. Discover this lost world with the help of the interactive living history team, a highlight of which is the narrow-gauge Mine Railway. Travel by train along the banks of the River Tamar before venturing deep underground in the George & Charlotte copper mine and experience the harsh working conditions of Victorian miners. You can even dress up in Victorian Dress.
  • Camel Trail - This is a fantastic day out for all the family. You can hire bikes for all ages as well as bike seats and trailers for the little ones. Running 18 miles from Bodmin to Padstow, if that is too much for you, start from Wadebridge in between. From there you can choose either the idyllic countryside views of the Bodmin leg or follow the estuary down to Padstow. The trail is ideal for walkers too and is both wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
